JCE exam results leak ahead of official release

Africa-Press – Malawi. Some students who sat the 2025 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations have managed to access their results before the official release.

The Daily Times has evidence that students from some schools in Lilongwe, Dedza and Kasungu have seen their examination results even though the Ministry of Education has not officially announced their release.

A parent from one of the schools told The Daily Times that she accessed results for her child from a link shared by a school official.

Another student who sat the JCE also told The Daily Times that a number of her classmates were able to access the results, although she could not access them through the link shared.

Spokesperson for the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb), Angela Kashitigu, could not respond to our calls or the questionnaire we sent in relation to the matter.

However, the Ministry of Education, through its spokesperson Christopher Kapachika, dismissed the claims, saying the reports are unfounded.

“I have received calls alleging that some people are accessing the 2025 Junior Certificate of Education examinations through the Maneb portal. The portal is

down and not accessible, so any related speculations should be ignored,” Kapachika said.

Commenting on the development, Civil Society Education Coalition Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe said the situation raises serious questions of accountability, professionalism and credibility on the part of Maneb and, by extension, the Ministry of Education.

“Even if Maneb or the ministry seeks to downplay the matter, the reality is that this premature access points to weak internal controls, inadequate coordination or possible breaches in information management, all of which demand urgent and transparent clarification,” Kondowe said.

Kondowe added that if Maneb and the ministry fail to handle the matter with seriousness and transparency, it may set a dangerous precedent where citizens normalise lapses in accountability, thereby weakening institutional trust.

He also said such mishaps can fuel speculation about corruption, favouritism or systemic inefficiencies, which can diminish the legitimacy of not only Maneb but also the ministry that oversees it.

In June this year, a total of 166,123 candidates sat this year’s JC Examination, of whom 85,902 were female while 80,221 were male.
