Africa-Press – Malawi. Musicians Joeboy and Shekhinah from Nigeria and South Africa respectively jetted into the country Thursday afternoon through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe ahead of their performances at Lilongwe Music Festival (LiFest).

LiFest, to be held at Lilongwe Golf Club, starts today through to Saturday. Speaking on arrival, Joeboy said he was feeling refreshed to be in Malawi and was looking forward to offering a good performance.

“This is my first time here but I promise good vibes and amazing tunes. I will also be performing a new song and Malawi will have it first,” he said.

With the festival’s aim being tackling issues of mental health and gender-based violence (GBV), Joeboy, called on people to speak out when they have issues and be strong.

Shekhinah also said she was more than ready for the festival. On issues of mental health and GBV, the singer advised young people to be strong in every situation.

“We go through different challenges but the most important thing is to stay strong, consult when there are issues troubling us and not resort to suicide,” she said.

Meanwhile, LiFest organisers have called on people to patronise the festival which also has local acts such as Black Missionaries, Tay Grin and Patience Namadingo.

“We are excited to have Joeboy and Shekhinah and Friday (today) we have Chris Martin from Jamaica. We are ready and, apart from the performances, we will also have booths where people can access information on mental health,” LiFest Project Coordinator Maya Kalumo said.
