Africa-Press – Malawi. The Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) Mission Africa has donated 500 mattresses valued at K57 million to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
SRLC chairman Amu Shah said the initiative aims to enhance patient comfort and reduce institutional challenges at the country’s largest referral hospital.
“Our goal is to support communities in ways that have a lasting impact. By addressing critical needs in health and education, we are working alongside the government to improve lives,” Shah said.
He was speaking during the handover ceremony Monday, when he said the gesture also reflects the organisation’s commitment to complementing government efforts to improve the welfare of Malawians.
Shah said the interventions are part of SRLC’s broader humanitarian agenda, which focuses on health, education and environmental sustainability.
Receiving the mattresses on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Secretary for Health Samson Mndolo thanked SRLC for the donation.
“This donation will greatly assist in improving patient care. It eases the pressure on hospital resources and demonstrates the importance of partnerships in addressing public health challenges,” Mndolo said.
Beyond the hospital intervention, SRLC also extended its assistance to the education sector by supporting Likhubula Primary School.
The organisation undertook infrastructure upgrades and introduced solar energy systems aimed at improving the school’s learning environment while encouraging environmental conservation.
Headteacher Regina Kufetula described the support as transformative, particularly because it reduces the school’s dependence on firewood for energy.
“This initiative will help our learners focus better in class because the classrooms are now properly lit, and we will no longer need to rely on firewood for energy. This not only improves the school environment but also protects our surrounding forests,” Kufetula said.
The Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) Mission Africa is a humanitarian initiative launched by Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, under the spiritual guidance of Indian spiritual leader and humanitarian Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji.
The mission aims to uplift marginalised communities across 16 African nations through a holistic community development programme.
