Africa-Press – Malawi. The former Malawi National football team forward, Kinnah Phiri, has praised and commended the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) President, Fleetwood Haiya for a successful 2023 season. Phiri observes that with the coming of Haiya, football lovers have witnessed huge competition in Malawi’s top league.
“Look at the fixtures in the first round, teams played a game per week for the first time in many years. Subvention was raised from MK1 million to MK10 million for the teams. Officials were on point despite some challenges.
“This proves to us that we need changes in the country’s football administration to make strides”, Kinnah said on the TNM Soccer Show on Zodiak Monday.
Kinnah Phiri is the Malawi National Team’s all-time top goal scorer with 71 goals, known by “Electric”, he also banged over 30 goals in the country’s top league in the late 1980s.
Echoing the same, former football administrator, and Analyst, Charles “The Grandmaster” Nyirenda said, the 2023 season has been a success under the leadership of Fleetwood Haiya.
“He has also announced the increment of the subvention to MK20 million next season, which is a great gesture to teams especially those who are run by individuals.
“This is evidently that if he is elected as FAM President in the forthcoming elections, he can deliver to the fullest and the sport will tremendously develop”, said Nyirenda. Fleetwood Haiya is challenging the incumbent FAM president Walter Nyamilandu in the December 16, 2023 elections slated for Mzuzu.
The TNM Super League season in Malawi concluded on Sunday with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC defending the title for the fifth time in a row after playing to a 1-1 draw against Silver Strikers FC at Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial City of Blantyre.
