The Malawi leader said the country’s three branches of the government were strewn with fruits of good teaching.
“So, whether you talk of judges and magistrates in the judicial branch; or clerks and administrators in the legislative branch; or controlling officers and directors in all ministries, departments and agencies of the Executive branch; or the chief executive officers and managers of our statutory corporations; of directors-general and executive directors of our independent governance institutions, the common thread that put them in those positions is that they got an education.
Chakwera also thanked his primary school teacher, a Mr Chitsunda, who turns 93 at the end of June, for his contribution in moulding the Malawi leader.
On her part, Basic and Secondary Education Minister Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima hailed Chakwera for the awards, which she said would motivate teachers to continue working hard.
