Africa-Press – Malawi. President Lazarus Chakwera says he has been assured of support as the government addresses Tropical Storm Ana-related challenges. Chakwera said this at Kamuzu International Airport (Kia) in Lilongwe Thursday on arrival from Belgium, where he attended the European Union-African Union Summit.

“The aftermath has really rendered this country needing big help and reconstruction and, so, we were able to get assurances with regard to all these things,” he said.

The President added that, while in Belgium, he took part in discussions aimed at strengthening sectors such as education and health. He said the international community also pledged to support his war on corruption.

In Geneva, Switzerland, Chakwera had a meeting with several partners, including those from the World Health Organisation and the Global Fund. “The fact is that we have an outbreak of a rare polio case and, so, they have assured us of continued support,” he said.

Vice President Saulos Chilima, Cabinet ministers and other government officials welcomed the President at the airport. Chakwera left Malawi on February 15 through the same Kia.
