Africa-Press – Malawi. Chiefs from the lhomwe belt are openly protesting against the selection of chief Kaduya as paramount chief of the lhomwe. About 50 lhomwe chiefs from Phalombe, Chiradzulu and Thyolo are against the selection of senior chief Kaduya as their Paramount chief.
They gathered at ‘Mwala osema’-Ngolongoliwa headquarters to brainstorm on their next course of action. Senior Group Village Headman Juma said the selection of Paramount chief Kaduya was influenced by ‘the party’ (Democratic Progressive Party) adding that the Lhomwes follow a well-structured lineage and culture when selecting chiefs, nothing else.
GVH Juma further alleges that the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe secretariat overstepped the mandate of chiefs in selecting the rightful Paramount chief for the belt.
Senior chief Nkhulambe, TA Ngolongoliwa and TA Ndalama are in attendance. Senior Chief Nkhulambe said the Lhomwe tribe is being confused by some people who are not chiefs.
Senior chief Nkhulambe said senior chief Kaduya is of mang’anja clan so it is irregular for her to be the Paramount chief. She added, its high time Lhomwe chiefs stood up and select their Paramount chief to present him or her to the Ministry of Local Government.
In resolution, the chiefs have advised Senior chief Nkhulambe to convene a meeting for all Lhomwe traditional authorities including some of the clan’s legal minds to the selection of the Lhomwe Paramount chief.
