Malawi Chichiri Prison escapee Charles Charlie arrested

Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a man for allegedly escaping from the Chichiri Prison. The Suspect has been identified as Charles Charlie 25, of Kambelengende Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Tengani in Nsanje District.

Charlie was convicted and sentenced to serve a jail term for a case of armed robbery at Chichiri Prison and on January 16, 2022 he bolted from the said facility.

He was arrested in the wee hours of Sunday, June 5, 2022 by Nkumaniza Police Officers where he was residing at Dzenje village in Nkumaniza near Mozambique border.

After being interrogated, he admitted to have committed the offence. He will be taken to court for the charge of Escaping from the lawful custody which is contrary to section 115 of the penal code.
