Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Government and Luxembourg officials have committed to strengthen bilateral relations.

This transpired Monday, when President Peter Mutharika said he appreciated the visit by Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel.

Mutharika reaffirmed Malawi’s dedication to deepening the partnership, particularly as the two countries prepare to sign a General Cooperation Agreement today.

Outlining his vision for Malawi’s economic transformation, the President said the country was shifting from a predominantly importing and consuming economy to one that produces and exports.

“I, therefore, invite you and Luxembourg investors to set up companies in Malawi. The country has a conducive environment for investment,” Mutharika said.

He said Malawi’s peace, hardworking and well-educated labour force as well as supportive policies presented advantages for business growth.

In his remarks, Mutharika also extended best wishes to Luxembourg in its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

He added that Malawi currently chairs the Peace and Security Organ of the Southern African Development Community Troika and is on course to joining the African Union Peace and Security Council, reflecting the country’s growing role in regional peace and stability.

On his part, Bettel congratulated Mutharika on his electoral victory in the September 16, 2025 Presidential Election.

“We see Malawi as a trusted partner and a country with strong potential for growth. Luxembourg is ready to work closely with your government to turn your development vision into practical cooperation that benefits both our peoples,” Bettel said.

He said Luxembourg was particularly interested in strengthening cooperation in areas such as governance, development assistance, and private sector investment.
