Africa-Press – Malawi. Former special assistant to President Lazarus Chakwera Pastor Martin Thom has filed a suit against the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Office of the President and Cabinet, through the Attorney General, demanding sum of MK1.6 billion in compensation for unlawful arrest in August last year.

The development has not gone well with citizens including Bashir Al Bashir who take the matter heard as he writes;

See this from MK1.6 billion kwacha claim from Pastor Martin: Pastor Martin uses an Malawi Congress Party (MCP) operative lawyer Sylvester Ayuba. The same lawyer who made noise against impunity wants Malawians to pay his client MK1.6 billion (he will get away with over 200 million as legal costs).

The claim reaches attorney general, another MCP operative, instead of challenging the claim, he says the figure is too much. Implicitly he will pay Pastor Martin MK1.5 billion no problem.

So we have three MCP operatives coordinating in this claim of MK1.6 billion, do you see what I am seeing? Do you see why attorney general is not challenging the claim?

There was an outcry why Pastor Martin was not arrested, indeed he was not. He never spent a day in cell, his case never proceeded, he doesn’t have a court bail, actually, he was just called for questioning and released minutes later.

How many Malawians have been compensated for being questioned by Police? Let Pastor Martin prove to us which court handled his case and what was the outcome, government lost?

Malawians let’s guard our hard earned monies. It’s hard to pay taxes, it’s hard to earn a living, we can’t just fold hands and let selfish people vulture our hard earned monies.
