Malawi’s Accountant General Office arrest galore: Four more on the radar for fraud

Africa-Press – Malawi. The Maravi Post has established that four more people at Accountant General’s office at Capital Hill in Lilongwe are in police custody for allegedly being involved in the fraud and embezzlement of millions of Kwacha at the office.

This has now led the number of those have been arrested in connection to the matter risen to 17 following 13 who have been arrested in the previous weeks. Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza confirmed the arrest of four on Tuesday July 19,2022.

“Yes, it is true. The fiscal police have nabbed four in connection to the matter at Accountant General’s office. These are Francis Chinthiti, Akuzike Chaongola, Fletcher Mugula and Emmanuel Chimata.

“Following the arrest of these four, the number of those who have been arrested in connection to the matter has now gone up to 17,” confirmed Namwaza. It is said that MK371 million swindled at the Accountant General’s office where 25 accountants from various government departments benefited.
