Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi National Football Team Coach Mario Marinica has named a 27-man provisional squad which goes into camp on Sunday to start preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and African Nations Championship qualifiers.

Marinica has taken on board Peter Mgangira and Enos Chatama as understudy coaches besides picking Franco Ndawa and Patrick Mabedi. Also in the squad is Clwyd Jones as assistant coach/ psychologist and data analyst while James Sangala has been roped in as technical support manager.

Major Rogers Mhango is the assistant technical support manager while Victor Mphande is the goalkeepers’ trainer. Marinica said he had included players who featured at the Afcon finals in Cameroon for purposes of consistency.

“This is only a provisional squad. We still have room for new players should they impress with their clubs. We will try as much as possible to build on continuity and consistency. Like I said before, I want everyone to be here on merit regardless of age and club.

“Anyone playing well and proving that they have the potential will get a chance to prove their capabilities at national team level. We are looking at players that are in-form but also bridging the gap by looking at the future,” he said.
