Africa-Press – Malawi. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has commended the state owned broadcaster, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) for securing beaming rights for the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022.
Fam President Walter Nyamilandu made the remarks at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Monday when MBC officially launched the World Cup Broadcast Campaign.
He said the acquisition of the exclusive rights to beam all the 64 Fifa World Cup matches ‘free’ on the local channels will not only entertain the soccer fraternity, but will positively contribute to the football development and interest among many people especially in rural areas.
“The ‘free broadcast’ of the game on TV will enable people from the rural areas enjoy soccer, while admiring their role models which will in turn encourage teams and individuals apply the knowledge and skills they have watched to their games, emulating the world stars like Messi and Mbappe in how they handle the ball and score goals,” he said.
MBC Director General George Kasakula said the state-owned public broadcaster will beam the 22nd edition of the World Cup ‘Live and free’ on their channels.
“The soccer fraternity deserves to enjoy the game in the comfort of their homes and video shows where people gather. This is the biggest competition in the world and will help local fans enjoy and relax,” he said.
“We have the rights to broadcast all the games but we shall plan, considering that the matches are many. We have our own schedule to show as many games as possible,” he said.
He said that MBC will beam the World Cup ‘live and free’ on MBC TV1, MBC TV2 on the Go, MBC Radio2 and digital include Live stream on Facebook so that Malawians should not miss the world football feast.
Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia and Ghana will represent Africa at the World Cup. All five have appeared at football’s biggest event previously. Record winners Brazil, alongside Germany, Portugal, England, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands, will also participate.
