Africa-PressMalawi. Malawi National Football Team Head Coach Meck Mwase has praised three players for impressing the coaching panel despite the Flames’ early exit from the 20th edition of the Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Mwase picked out Polokwane City new signing Mike Mkwate, Cyprus based midfielder Tawonga Chimodzi and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers attacker Vitumbiko Kumwenda as some of the outstanding Flames players who will be considered for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

“Much as it is disappointing that we did not do much in this tournament but I can confess that I have impressed with the performance of the new faces that I called. We had Mkwate, Tawonga and Vitu. These guys have played well. I invited them to see how they can perform,” he said.

Kumwenda started for the first two Flames matches against Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Mkwate came in as a second half substitute when the Flames drew 2-2 against Zimbabwe on Friday while Chimodzi was also a second half substitute when Malawi lost 2-0 to Mozambique.

The Cyprus based player was also given a start on Tuesday when Flames drew 1-1 against Namibia, with Mkwate and Kumwenda being introduced as substitutes. Flames were paired in World Cup qualifiers Group D alongside Mozambique, Cameroon and Ivory Coast.
