Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) has been accorded with high esteem following splendid academic performance in grooming top manager in the country and beyond.
National Planning Commission (NPC) Director General Dr. Thomas Chataghalala Munthali confirmed on MIM’s human capital grooming when he presided over 3rd congregation of the institution’s fifth and
sixth cohorts graduation ceremony on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Bingu International Convention (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe. Dr. Munthali observed that MIM’s excellent academic records are paramount towards Malawi’s 2063 development agenda.
He cited prominent individuals passed through MIM corridors who are contributing greatly to Malawi’s development agenda including Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima, Lingalireni Mihowa (Executive Director for Oxfam-Malawi), Edith Jiya (Group CEO of Old Mutual), Tiya Somba Banda (President of the revered Super League of Malawi (SULOM) and among others.
“But why are you only picking on examples of those who did Masters degrees or PhD? This is depressing to some of us. The answer is simple. If you only have a certificate, diploma or degree, then you are not there yet. The world is fast evolving and to remain competitive in your field and for the nation, please come back to MIM and complete your education.
“But here is the key message. Be it in Government and politics, civil society and NGO sector, private sector, sports and creative arts, you will spot someone who has walked through the MIM corridors being part of the drivers. So be proud graduands,” lauds Dr Munthali.
He added, “You can and should be part of these inspirational figures and more! Be motivated. I know some of you think you have already done it in life, but am sure you decided to pass through the MIM corridors because you wish to soar even higher like an eagle. Your new journey has just started – that is why this event is called a commencement event. This is a happy occasion because you are being rewarded for your hard work and the completion of your studies.
“For the youthful graduands, this is also a proud moment for parents and guardians because their dreams of giving their sons and daughters education have finally come to fruition and I would like to say ‘‘to God be the Glory.’’
“To all of you graduands, this MIM, and the collaborating universities are your alma mater and so be their admirable ambassadors. The reputation in the labour market and respect for more enrolment into the universities and MIM (and the School of Government it is transitioning into), pretty much depends on you”.
MIM board chairperson Professor Lewis Dzimbiri shared similar sentiment with Acting Executive Director Dr. Jessie Kabwila of the institute’s commitment towards producing outstanding human capital for Malawi’s 2063 agenda. One of the graduands, Vincent Sinda assured of exceptional work performance at his institution towards Malawi’s development agenda.
MIM in conjunction with Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) and University of Bolton in United Kingdom (UK) jointly graduated about 424 students in postgraduate, undergraduate and certificates in various management programmes including finance, logistics and supply chain, business administration, human resources, marketing, project and among others.
