Africa-Press – Malawi. First year students from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has died after throwing himself into a moving vehicle on Friday, March 11, 2022 .
The student, who has been identified as Franswell Namathawa, threw himself in front of a moving vehicle at Bvumbwe Trading Centre in Thyolo district. Sources revealed that Namathawa was depressed from relationship matters at the time of the incident.
Malawi has seen a sharp rise in suicide cases for the last couple of years. For instance, between January and March 2021, the country registered 76 suicides, an increase of nearly 50 percent over the same period last in year 2020.
Mental health expert in the country have attributed the sharp rise in suicide cases to the critical shortages of mental health specialized personnel in the public health system.
