Africa-Press – Malawi. Member of Parliament (MP) for Mulanje Bale, Victor Musowa has demanded accountability of MK5 billion toll gate revenue collected on the roads of Malawi. Musowa wants President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government to explain how the revenues have been used.

Rising on a point of order in the August house on Tuesday April 11, 2023, the lawmaker observes that despite huge some revenues collected surrounding toll gates areas’ roads remain in bad shape.

Musowa said motorists are paying MK2,000.00 to and from southern region road yet nothing on such roads have not been rehabilitated. Responding to the matter, Minister of Transport, Jacob Hara said procurement procedures is the main cause for the delay of the roads re-construction. He said it is very painful that the toll gates are generating a lot of revenue from the country’s citizen but nothing to show off.
