Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi National Netball Team prolific shooter Joyce Mvula was named player of the match after inspiring Manchester Thunder to defeat Leeds Rhinos 84-49 in the Vitality Netball Superleague on Sunday.
Mvula shot a huge 60 goals as Thunder stayed top, while Rhinos sit seventh with three games to go. The Malawian was integral to Thunders’ win, shooting at an incredible 94 percent accuracy rate.
“Rhinos forced Thunder off the backline but couldn’t complete the transition, Mvula added the goal for thunder 49- 81. There is too much on the ball for Rhinos and Mvula continued to add for Thunder. Cardwell went long into Mvula, who got the final goal to end the game 49-84,” www. netballsl.com reported.
The former Blue Eagles Sisters goal-shooter said it was important to help her team win the match in their quest for the title. “It is all about the team. We work hard as a team to get good results,” Mvula said.
The development comes after her compatriot, Mwawi, made the difference for her Australia Suncorp Super Netball League side Melbourne Vixens with a Player-of-the-Match display in a nail-biting 66-64 win over Queensland Firebirds on Saturday.
The win saw Vixens return to the top of the ladder with 24 points from eight matches. Trailing Firebirds for most of the game, Vixens dug deep in the final term to upstage their opponents with some huge defensive wins and Kumwenda’s super shooting.
