Africa-Press – Malawi. Ngabu United defeated Livunzu Football Club 4-1 to be crowned champions of the K5 million SAEED Investment Lower Shire Trophy in the finals which took place at Ngabu Community ground in Chikwawa district, Malawi on Sunday, March 20,2022.
Ngabu who were aggressive from the first whistle scored their goals through Elias, Davie Shonga and a brace from Misili while Livunzu consolation goal was scored by Misikoto at 82nd mininute.
Ngabu United has taken home money amounting to MK800,000 plus a Trophy for being the Champions while Livunzu FC got MK500,000 for finishing as runners up.
Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia graced the occasion and hailed SAEED Watson Dinyero of SAEED Investment who pumped in money for the Youth in the two districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje to be competing and interacting when the area was hardly hit by floods.
Apart from that Mia said the trophy will help developing the sport in the area and Malawi as a whole. The minister has also pledged to build a face around Ngabu Community Ground for the youth to have good place for different sporting activities.
“We already agreed with Traditional Authority, Chiefs to ask District Council to build the face covering the ground.About the Stadium we look for that in the future.Sports is very vital as it gives youth something to do hence refraining from doing immoral behaviors.”, Abida Mia narrated.
The sponsor of the trophy SAEED Watson Dinyero was delighted that District Football Associations of Chikwawa and Nsanje managed the trophy well saying his goal of sponsoring football is slowly being achieved.
However Dinyero showed some dissatisfaction with what Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) did for not being present at the final day of the trophy saying this contribute to the Sponsors withdrawing.
“Let me ask all journalists present here to send message to FA President Walter Nyamilandu that SRFA led by Humba has not shown some respect to me as sponsor, why not even one member from the Association did not come at the function.
“This is one thing which is killing our sport in the region, Mr Nyamilandu must talk with the Association if more Sponsors are to come in and support the sport otherwise I am very disappointed “,Dinyero explained with a heartbroken.
Raphael Humba Chairman for Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) confirmed not attending the event on Sunday saying the sponsor formulated it’s own committee to organize the finals of the trophy.
” I can confirm that indeed didn’t attend the function for a simple reason, the Sponsor replaced the committee we formed as mother body of football in the region with his.We are organisers of football events in the region hence we can’t be invited at the function, but we have to invite people so we didn’t go there for that reason.
“I am also hearing some reports that I demanded money amounting to MK400,000,let me say that ,this is unfounded report and total lie. I have been running sports for some years now. Let me appeal to the sponsors to let the organisers run the affairs of the leagues in the districts and we give them well documented reports afterwards,” says Humba.
Dinyero therefore vowed to continue sponsoring football in the two districts and the package for the time being will remain at MK5 million. Dinyero runs his businesses in these two districts hence the football sponsorship is one way of paying back to the communities.
