Africa-Press – Malawi. Newly crowned TNM Super League champions Mighty Wanderers have announced contract extension for four players.

The players are defender Emmanuel Nyirenda, midfielders Isaac Kaliati, Daniel Kudonto Jnr and forward Mphatso Kamanga, underlining their statuses as some of the important players for the club.

Both Nyirenda and Kaliati will remain at the club until December 2027. Kudonto Jnr whose contract was due to expire in December next year has been rewarded with another two-year contract until December 2028. Similarly, Kamanga has also extended his deal until December 2028.

In an interview yesterday, Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi said the players have been rewarded with improved contracts following their outstanding performances this season.

“Nyirenda, Kaliati and Kudonto were some of the key players for us so we decided to extend their contracts. For Kamanga, despite missing the better part of the season due to injury, he is still valued as a good player,” Ndovi said.

Ndovi said the club is expected to extend contracts for some of the players. “We are discussing with two players to extend their contracts. The discussions started five months ago and we are at advanced stage,” Ndovi said.

Nyirenda, who joined Wanderers from Mighty Tigers in 2023, was a mainstay for Wanderers this season. Kaliati, who is one of the longest serving players for Wanderers, was also integral as they won the TNM Super League title this season.

Kudonto, who is a product of Wanderers Reserve, starred for the senior team this season. He showed composure and consistency throughout the campaign. Kamanga, who joined Wanderers from Karonga United in 2022, underwent a successful knee operation in South Africa early this year.

But he is expected to be a key member for the Nomads in the Castel Challenge Cup as he has recovered. Sports analyst Parry Chinyama hailed Wanderers for extending the contracts for the players. “It is a good move for the club. I am sure, they will also beef up the squad,” he said.

The Nomads have qualified for the 2026 Caf Champions League after winning the TNM Super League title.
