Africa-Press – Malawi. Nyasa Big Bullets have threatened to lodge a complaint with Tanzanian giants Simba SC over suspected food poisoning. The development follows Bullets’ exit from the Caf Champions League, having lost 4-0 on aggregate including Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Bullets Coach Kalitso Pasuwa reportedly told the media that some of the players were “weak and feeling dizzy” before the encounter. However, Pasuwa did not answer our calls to clarify his remarks alleging that five players and an official got sick.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga confirmed the People’s Team were planning to lodge a complaint to Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) through Football Association of Malawi (Fam) over suspected food poisoning at a hotel they booked in Tanzania.
“We suspect that some of our players and an official were food poisoned at the hotel in Tanzania. The club will provide details on our next step on the matter but we are going to launch a complaint to the Tanzania Football Federation as a host federation through Fam,” Chigoga said.
Chigoga refused to disclose the names of the players but our investigations revealed that striker Babatunde Adepoju and defender Alick Lungu were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Football analyst Felix Ngamanya Sapao said it was a sensitive matter and Bullets needed evidence to prove their case. “Bullets have confirmed medical reports that the food was spiked but issues like this one need evidence. Do they have evidence?” Sapao asked.
Fam Communications and Competitions Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said they were waiting for Bullets’ complaint though the situation was tricky as the team made all the hotel and travel arrangements on their own as per new Caf rules. However, Simba SC Chief Executive Officer Barbara Jaime Gonzalez did not respond to our questionnaire sent on WhatsApp.
