Africa-Press – Malawi. Chikondi Mkwate Chingadza, Eastern Region Police Commissioner, has advised officers to refrain from performing duties after drinking alcohol, stressing that it leads to misconduct and contravenes professional rules.

Commissioner Chingadza said this at the Police College in Zomba during Christmas Carols held to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

She also urged police officers to serve Malawians fairly and reminded them that police bail is free, therefore, they should not demand payment from people suspected of committing crimes.

Chingadza further warned police officers not to abuse their families, noting that many people end up committing suicide because of domestic problems.

The public is also urged to prioritize home security over the Christmas and New Year holidays by ensuring someone stays behind to watch over their properties while others visit the lake.

“The police force finds solace in Jesus Christ; as we observe the celebration of His birth, we should prepare our hearts in prayer, seeking guidance for the tasks at hand,” she said.

On his part, the Police Chaplain, Superintendent Martin Mwanyongo, advised police officers to pray and to fear God as they carry out their duties.

He said that when a police officer fears God, they also develop respect for people’s property and for the laws.

He therefore asked senior police officers to allow officers time to go for prayers from Friday to Sunday.
