Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Parliamentary committee on Public Accounts (PAC) has given ministry of health three months to procure diagnosis machine which has been out of use for the past 4 years.
Chairperson for the Committee Shadrek Namalomba said this on Thursday, May 12, 2022 during the meeting with the health officials after they summoned them for an audit query.
The order comes as medical personnel are struggling to assist the patients proper in the absence of the machine. Namalomba said Queen Elizabeth Hospital diagnosis machine broke down in 2018 and till date patients are sent to Mwaiwathu private hospital on government expense.
He said Queens is supposed to repair the broken diagnosis machine to avoid spending money to Mwaiwathu which can be use to buy drugs. He has asked the ministry to have one stock center for the procurement of drugs for all hospitals to avoid delay of drugs supply in hospitals.
On his part Principal Secretary for the Ministry, Beston Chisamire said the machine is expected to be in the country by July this year. Chisamire said currently it is very hard for doctors to diagnosed patients in the absence of the machine. He said the ministry is in support of the one stop shop proposed by the Committee saying will help easy procurement of drug.
