Africa-Press – Malawi. The Public Affairs Committee (Pac) is scheduled to meet with President Lazarus Chakwera Friday to discuss national issues, with the issue of political violence expected to top the agenda.
Chakwera’s spokesperson Anthony Kasunda confirmed the development but referred inquiries for further details to Pac.
“Yes, I can confirm that the President will meet Pac from 2pm, but for further details on the meeting, please talk to Pac,” Kasunda said.
Pac Executive Director Robert Phiri corroborated the issue, saying the focus would be on the issue of political violence.
“It is true that the Pac Executive Committee will meet the Head of State at 2pm. The meeting should have taken place before he left for Mzuzu but due to his tight schedule, it was agreed that we meet him this week.
“So yes, I can confirm. The overall aim of the meeting is to advocate for peace in light of the recent [cases of] political violence the country faced,” Phiri said.
“You may recall that we sought an audience with the former Head of State on matters relating to peace. So, this is a strategic meeting on specific issues before we engage other presidential candidates. These interventions will lead to conflict prevention through dialogue and mediation as we prepare for the 2025 general elections,” Phiri added.
