Africa-Press – Malawi. Panama will face Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Mexico hammered Jamaica 3-0 in the semifinal round on Thursday. The winning goals were netted by Henry Martin in the third minute, Luis Chavez in the 30th minute and Roberto Alvarado in the 93rd minute at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

In the other semifinal clash of the day at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, Panama eliminated the US in a 5-4 penalty shootout, after extra time ended with a 1-1 draw.

Ivan Anderson tallied for Panama in the 99th minute, then Jesus Ferreira of the US leveled the score in the 105th minute. The final game will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Monday.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup, which was founded in 1991, is the main association football competition of the men’s national football teams governed by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). It is held every two years.

While the reigning champions US were eliminated in the semifinals, the most successful nation in the competition is the 2023 finalist Mexico with eight titles.
