Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee (PAC) on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 voted in support of newly appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu.
This comes as Yolamu on Wednesday morning appeared before PAC twhere she was interviewed following her appointment as IG by President Lazarus Chakwera last week.
The Maravi Post understands that out of 18 members of the committee 17 voted for Yolamu while 1 member voted against her. Three members of the Committee did not cast their vote as they were engaged with other parliamentary duties.
PAC Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo said the committee will a report to the whole House for Yolamu’s confirmation process on Friday. Chitsulo however told reporters that the Committee sought guidance from Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on allegations that Yolamu is implicated in corruption food ratio scandal. ACB is said to have cleared Yolamu.
