Petroleum Importers Limited donates cameras, monitors to Blantyre Police

Africa-Press – Malawi. Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has donated two 43- inch UDH monitors and three power beam transmitter cameras worth K3 million to Blantyre Police Station to boost its fight against crime in the city.

PIL Finance Manager, Kambani Mchiela, said the Malawi Police Service is already doing a wonderful job in trying to keep the streets safe but in some cases their policing efforts are hindered by lack of equipment and capacity limitations in the fight against crime, hence the donation.

“We believe that the introduction of security cameras acts as both a deterrent and a tool for investigating crime within the city. This will ultimately result in the reduction of crime as well as lead to successful conviction of criminals,” Mchiela said.

Blantyre Police Traffic Station Officer Super intendent Jackson Silungwe described the donation as a milestone, saying it would assist in the monitoring of crime and traffic in the city.

“We are trying to employ new ways of combating crime and installation of CCTV cameras is one of them. We currently have 14 cameras but we are looking at installing over 50 cameras and therefore I urge other corporate citizens to help make our city a safe place,” Silungwe said.
