Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi today joined the world in commemorating International Human Rights Day which coincided with 75th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
President Reverend Lazarus Chakwera restated his commitment to use all international human rights mechanisms and adopting legislation that enhance protection for marginalized groups.
He also ensured greater accountability and transparency in the promotion and protection of human rights by strengthening oversight bodies and public institutions.
In addition, Chakwera said he would implement a Business and Human Rights Action Plan around a framework for ensuring that businesses adhere to human rights principles. The President said he would also enhance the adoption of climate-resilient and sustainable practices in all sectors of Malawi to address the effects of climate change on the rights of the people of Malawi.
The President was delighted that Malawi continues to earn praise in the international arena, as evidenced by the recent re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council and retaining of the A status as a top class human rights adherent.
