Africa-Press – Malawi. South Africa Netball team, the PROTEAS, has humiliated and ended party for the Malawi Queens in their Tri-Nations Netball series taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Queens dominated the Tri-Nations Netball Tournament which took place in Blantyre last week winning six (6) games over Namibia and Zimbabwe, they thought they would start from there against South Africa. But it wasn’t to be as the Zulu women had to prove how good they are in Africa by defeating the Queens 93 goals to 48.
Queens struggled from the first quarter as they trailed by 17 goals to 10,in the second quarter Malawi were behind by 34 goals to 23,South Africa went on to lead 53-34 in the third quarter and at regulation time the host had scored 93 goals to 48 for Queens.
This was the worst result for Malawi Queens over Proteas of South Africa for many years to lose with 45 goals difference. Peace Chawinga, Queens coach, said before leaving the country, she had a huge task to rectify weaknesses she spotted in the Tri-Nations Netball Tournament in Blantyre before flying out to Birmingham City, England to participate in the Commonwealth games.
In the tournament which Malawi won over Zimbabwe and Namibia, Malawi had problems such as foot fault, turnovers and also misplacing of passes which will be a disaster when meeting teams such as England, New Zealand, Jamaica, Australia and of course Uganda who displaced Queens on position 6 on International Netball Federation Ranking (INF) in the Commonwealth games. Malawi Queens play England on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in their next game of the Tri-Nations Netball series.
