Africa-Press – Malawi. Thomson Madulira of Thom’s Park Investment, who is the brains behind South African veteran reggae musician Senzo Mthethwa’s concerts in the country, has described the first three shows as a success.
Senzo, who last came to Malawi in 1999, held his first show on Friday at Davido Lounge in Mangochi before dating Club 24/7 in Blantyre the following day and then on Sunday he performed at Modern Park in Balaka District.
“We are happy with how everything transpired the three shows in the Southern Region. The support we have received is massive. Again, people have been satisfied with Senzo’s performance, many doubted but they have seen that he still has the gas in his tank,” Madulira said.
He urged people in the Central and Northern regions to patronise the shows lined up. “We want to reach out to everyone, hence having this tour. In most cases, international artists only perform in Blantyre and Lilongwe but Senzo will go as far as Karonga,” Madulira said.
Senzo, famed for songs such as ‘Irene’ and ‘Thank You My Lord’, said at Club 24/7 in Blantyre that he was not the same artist that people saw in 1998 and 1999 but he is still there in music.
“The expectation from people is that I would give them what I used to do in the past but let me admit that that Senzo is gone. Due to illness I have lost my voice and that is why I have difficulties in articulation of words but I am trying,” he said.
On June 25, the artist is expected to perform at Kasungu Culture Club and then Squirrels Park in Mzuzu on June 26 before winding up the tour on June 27 with a gig at Planet Club in Karonga District.
