Africa-Press – Malawi. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets versatile midfielder Ernest Petro has officially joined Silver Strikers FC as a free agent.
Petro signed a two-year contract with the Central Bankers on Thursday.
After signing, Petro expressed his excitement, saying he feels honored to join the TNM Super League defending champions.
“I am thrilled to join Silver Strikers, which is also a powerhouse as far as football is concerned in the country. I have moved from one big team to another, and I do not take this for granted. I won a lot of silverware with my previous club and I will continue working hard to bring more trophies to Silver with the help of my teammates,” he said.
Since the departure of their matchmaker Chimwemwe Idana to Zambian side Zanaco FC, Silver have been lacking a creative midfielder.
Silver coach Peter Mgangira hailed the signing, saying Petro’s presence at Area 47 will help bridge the gap that his former Bullets teammate left.
“I think this is one of the best signings and we are hopeful that he will help us both in the Caf Champions League and domestic matches. I am happy to have him in my squad,” Mgangira said.
Petro rose through the ranks at Bullets after joining their reserve team in 2012 and was promoted to the senior team in 2017.
At the People’s Team, the soft-spoken midfielder won five TNM Super League titles, four Airtel Top 8 Cups, one Castel Cup and one FDH Bank Cup.
