Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga scored a brace as Wuhan Jianghan FC defeated Henan Jianye 4-0 in Chinese Women’s League on Sunday.

It was Tabitha’s second consecutive brace this season after she also scored in a 3-0 victory over Beijing Phoenix last week. Tabitha is the leading goal scorer in the Chinese Women’s League with five goals in four matches.

Her young sister Temwa Chawinga was featured in defence but assisted with one of Tabitha’s goals. Temwa has scored two goals in the league this season. In an interview from China, Tabitha said her focus was to defend the league this season.

“I am happy that we have started well and I hope we will continue to win games. It will not be easy to defend the league but we are prepared,” Tabitha said.

Last season, Tabitha won the golden boot award with nine goals, two goals ahead of Temwa. The Chawinga sisters helped Wuhan defend the league title. For Tabitha, it was her third league title in China in four years whereas Temwa has won it twice.

National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira hailed Tabitha and Temwa for their impressive performances in China. “We are proud of the two players. They have good attitude. Tabitha and Temwa are good examples,” Ngwira said. Wuhan are at the summit of the log table with 12 points from four matches this season.
