Africa-Press – Malawi. OPENING NEW CHAPTER—Tabitha poses with the trophyMalawi National Women’s Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga represented Malawi at the official unveiling ceremony of the new TotalEnergies Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) trophy in Rabat, Morocco.

The ceremony took place ahead of Saturday’s kickoff of the continental competition’s finals in the North African country.

It attracted representatives from all the 12 qualified nations but Tabitha attended the ceremony at Confederation of African Football’s invitation.

Tabitha expressed her gratitude for being considered to represent Malawi at the continental event.

“It is truly an honour and privilege to be part of Wafcon, even when my country is not participating. Today, I had the incredible opportunity to unveil the trophy in Rabat, Morocco—and the adrenaline rush was unforgettable! A heartfelt thank you to Caf for including me in this special moment.

“Wishing all the qualified teams the very best—let the games begin! African women’s football is on the rise. May the resilience of the African girl child light up football pitches across Africa and around the world,” Tabitha wrote on her Facebook page.

The Olympique Lyonnais forward is on holiday as the league in France is on off-season break.

Malawi are on the verge of qualifying for next year’s Wafcon finals with a date against Angola in the final round in October this year.
