Ten youths depart for Kuwait for jobs

Africa-Press – Malawi. A group of 10 youths left the country Sunday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on a job recruitment drive to Kuwait, where they will work for a period of three years.

The recruitment has been processed through an agreement between Job Centre Malawi Limited and Alghanim and Sons LLC.

The youths are expected to work at the company’s warehouses.

Among other roles, the youths will be working as warehouse men, general labourers and price taggers at the electronics manufacturer and distributor company.

Job Centre Malawi Limited Managing Consultant Trevor Kandoje said all processes had been completed to ensure the effective recruitment of the youths.

“We have all the approvals from the government, the police, Immigration, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. So, the youths are safe and will be safe there. Even the Kuwait mission in Malawi has been informed about this recruitment,” Kandoje said.

He said another group of 20 youths was expected to leave the country in phases by the end of this month.

“We have been recruiting youths for this company for the past 10 years and this time we have recruited 30 Malawians to the company. After this group departs, another group will leave the country in the next few weeks,” he said.

He assured Malawians of the safety of the youths.

“This deployment is different from the ones where you hear news that some Malawians are stuck abroad. We have processed the correct visas for the youths, so it will not be risky for them regarding their working environment,” he said.

One of the youths, Lilian Chiphwanya from Blantyre, said she was excited to be part of the group.

“I am excited, but at the same time I am anxious as I am going to a different culture and lifestyle. However, I am hopeful that my trip and work there will be successful,” Chiphwanya said.

She said they were prepared to discharge their duties professionally.

At least 300 Malawian youths have been recruited to Kuwait since 2014 through the agreement between the two sides.
