Africa-Press – Malawi. Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has announced that it will soon start regulating foreign examination bodies to raise standards of entrepreneurial and vocational education in the country.
This was revealed over the weekend when the authority engaged employers from different sectors to enlighten them on the Tevet certification. According to Teveta Executive Director Elwin Sichiola, there are many foreign examination bodies operating because they are not regulated in Malawi.
Sichiola said the authority will move sieve some examination bodies which do not meet the standards in line with provisions of the law. “We now have a regulation, it has gone for gazetting and once that is done, we will start regulating so that we screen these foreign examining bodies before they start operating in Malawi to ensure that the quality of examination is good,” he said.
He added that the purpose of the engagement with employers was to assure them that the Tevet certificate is as powerful as any other certificate from other examining bodies. He then urged the employers both in government and the private sectors to accept graduates with the certificate during recruitment.
One of the participants who is also Human Resources Manager from Kansai Plascon Paints applauded the authority for the initiative adding that many employers indeed did not have trust in the Tevet certificate.
“In the past we indeed had challenges to accept the qualification but they have improved and we can bear testimony to that because 80 percent of our employees are from technical colleges under Teveta and the employees are doing a good job,” she said.
Teveta is a regulatory body which was established by government to help in vocational and technical training management and regulation.
