Tobacco buyers in the country are shunning tobacco from farmers who cultivate the country’s gold leaf outside contract farming arrangements.
These are the findings from the auction floors following a visit by members of Parliament on Wednesday.
Speaking to the delegation, Lilongwe Division Manager for the Tobacco Commission, Alison Kambiri, said about 93 percent of the tobacco brought to the market by non-contracted farmers was being rejected.
