Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi has earned about $ 507.4 million (nearly K900 billion) from tobacco sales as of August 22, 2025, which is above last season’s earnings of about $400 million.
Figures from Auction Holdings Limited (AHL) show that the amount is from the sale of 200.5 million kilograms (kg) of tobacco at an average price of $2.53 per kg.
This marks a jump from the $396.8 million recorded by August 21, 2024, when 133.3 million kg had been sold at an average price of $2.98 per kg.
The volumes have also surpassed the estimated production for this season which was pegged at just over 174 million kg.
By August 21 this year, over two million bales of all tobacco types had been sold across the country’s four auction floors.
Meanwhile, the Tobacco Commission (TC) has extended the selling period for the 2025 marketing season from the initial closing date of August 29 to September 12, to clear remaining volumes.
The revised schedule means Chinkhoma and Lilongwe floors will now close on September 5, instead of August 22 and 29, respectively. Mzuzu floors will close on September 12.http://Read more, click:- https://times.mw/etimes/
