Africa-Press – Malawi. Two men are in police custody for allegedly being found tampering with road culverts at Musawachi area along M1 road in Rumphi. The two have been identified as Dan Harawa, 32, and his brother Henry Harawa, 31.

A report filed at Rumphi Police Station indicates that on November 2 2022 police detectives in the district were on night patrol shift along M1 road. Upon reaching at Vwalako Village around Musawachi area, the officers came across four men who were busy removing the said road culverts.

The officers managed to arrest two of them and the other two suspects Luka Manyera, who is a Village Headman and his son escaped from the scene and are currently at large.

The two have since been charged with offence of endangering safety of persons travelling by road which is contrary to Section 249 of the Penal Code. Meanwhile, investigations are at an advanced stage to arrest the two who are at large.

The Officer In-charge for Rumphi Police Station Pherson Nthenda (Assistant Commissioner of Police) has since warned community members against vandalising road culverts and has said that the law will take its course against those found. The two suspects come from Kasaphayira Village under Traditional Authority Mwahenga in Rumphi.
