Mighty Wanderers have hinted at the possibility of extending contracts for experienced strikers Sama Thierry Tanjong and Muhammad Sulumba.
Sama and Sulumba’s contracts are set to expire at the end of the season.
Panganeni NdoviWanderers Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi said Wednesday that both Sama and Sulumba had agreed in principle to extend their respective deals.
“We have already agreed in principle. We are expecting to announce [some news] soon,” Ndovi said.
Ndovi said Sama had been offered a two-year contract whereas Sulumba is expected to sign a one-year contract with the club.
“The decision was made with recommendation from the technical panel. The two players are still important and we want to keep them. Both Sama and Sulumba are also mentoring young strikers, such as Promise Kamwendo and Blessings Mwalilino, in the team,” he said.
Sama joined Wanderers on a two-year contract after successful trials in 2024 whereas Sulumba returned to Wanderers on a short-term contract during the mid-season player transfer window.
The Cameroonian striker missed the better part of the 2025 season due to injuries.
However, he scored one goal and provided five assists as the club lifted the TNM 2025 Super League title.
Last week, he scored a brace as Wanderers defeated Moyale Barracks 2-0 in the Castel Challenge Cup at Rumphi Stadium in Rumphi District.
Similarly, Sulumba scored four goals for Wanderers in the league.
He also scored one goal as Wanderers thrashed Extreme in the Castel Challenge Cup.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said both Sama and Sulumba were important players for the club.
“They are experienced players and, as such, they [Wanderers] need to keep them to help the youngsters,” he said.
Kamwendo is Wanderers’ top goalscorer in the league, having netted nine goals, whereas Mwalilino scored eight goals.
Isaac Kaliati scored six goals whereas Wisdom Mpinganjira and Blessings Singini each scored five goals in the league.
Gaddie Chirwa scored four goals in the league.
Wanderers recently extended the contracts for Kaliati, Emmanuel Nyirenda, Mphatso Kamanga and Daniel Kudonto.
