Africa-Press – Malawi. ZIMBABWE is set to welcome a global community of innovators as the Harvard University Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL), in partnership with Matamba Film Labs, hosts the 7th edition of its Global Systems Hackathon in Harare.

The event, scheduled for April 10 and 11, will run under the theme Building High Value Health Systems: Leveraging AI.

The hackathon aims to explore how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to strengthen healthcare systems and ultimately save lives.

Over the two days, the event seeks to bring together students, healthcare professionals, technologists and entrepreneurs.

Participants will work in teams to tackle real-world health system challenges, turning concepts into practical solutions.

Zimbabwe’s selection as the official host site has been hailed as a significant opportunity for local innovators to engage global peers while showcasing home-grown solutions.

“We are incredibly excited to bring the HSIL Systems Hackathon to Zimbabwe. This is a powerful opportunity for Zimbabwean innovators, students and professionals to engage with a world-class global platform,” said Kudakwashe Makuzwa, Zimbabwe Hub lead for the hackathon.

He added that hosting the event locally would help to nurture talent and foster cross-sector collaboration.

“Solutions from our context can contribute meaningfully to the future of health systems worldwide.

“This initiative allows us to position Zimbabwe as an active contributor to global health innovation, especially at a time when AI presents transformative possibilities for our health sector.”

Matamba Film Labs will co-ordinate Zimbabwe’s participation in collaboration with partners including the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter, IndabaX Zimbabwe, Peak Point Services and ZimSmart Village.
