AES: The heads of diplomacy of Burkina, Mali and Niger consult

Africa-Press – Mali. Present in Banjul as part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit, the ministers in charge of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger held a meeting on the evening of Saturday May 4, 2024.

The objective of this meeting was to review the actions carried out in each country, and to discuss short-term perspectives to give new impetus to the dynamics of the AES.

” What we have done so far fascinates the world and we must still demonstrate perseverance by taking concrete actions, so as not to prove right those who have a pessimistic idea of ​​our Alliance “, the minister suggested. Nigerien in charge of Foreign Affairs Bakary Yaou SANGARE at the start of the exchanges.

Just like him, Their Abdoulaye DIOP and Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE, noted the need to initiate symbolic and concerted actions, in order to restore the AES to its initial rhythm.

In this regard, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy will say that ” we started with a pace that we must maintain, through signals that will allow public opinion to know that the AES dynamic is really underway.”

For him, a directive must be developed as soon as possible, which will guide the positions taken by the AES countries at the level of international bodies.

This proposed framework, as well as the idea of ​​holding tripartite meetings, and technical meetings to address specific issues that affect the daily lives of the AES populations, were supported by the Malian and Nigerien ministers.

All recognized the need to also put in place internal solidarity mechanisms and integrative projects within the AES, with a framework for coordinating and monitoring actions.

Added to this is the consideration of the diaspora, which the three countries want to mobilize more through their diplomatic missions, with a view to optimizing its participation in the operationalization of the AES.

In the meantime, Abdoulaye DIOP, Bakary Yaou SANGARE and Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE, want to move quickly in finalizing the texts of the Confederation project, which will be at the heart of the summit of Heads of State of the AES.

At this meeting, Ministers DIOP and TRAORE expressed their gratitude to the Republic of Niger for its gesture of solidarity, which consisted of supplying Mali and Burkina Faso with hydrocarbons.
