Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, effected a site visit, this afternoon, at the construction site of the New Flacq Teaching Hospital, in Constance, Flacq.
The aim was to take stock of progress of works concerning the first phase of the project. The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, and other personalities were also present during the site visit.
In a statement, Minister Jagutpal expressed satisfaction with regards to the progress of works and highlighted that, according to the contractor, everything is going according to schedule.
He pointed out that structural works for the first phase are almost completed and that finishing works will soon begin. As for the second phase, he underscored that the design is currently being prepared by the consultant, HSCC (India) Limited.
He also indicated that some services will be available by next year and remarked that once fully operational by 2024, the hospital will offer state-of-the-art services to inhabitants of the region.
For his part, Minister Balgobin underlined that this project is in line with Government’s vision of enhancing the local public health service. The hospital, he stated, will offer all facilities to the public and will also enable more medical staff to receive adequate training so as to offer a better service to the public.
He further observed that his Ministry and the Ministry of Health and Wellness are launching an expression of interest for an e-Health system. This, he added, will ensure that all administrative procedures will be carried out online, thus enabling medical staff to offer a better service to the community.
It is recalled that the New Flacq Teaching Hospital will be implemented in two phases. The first phase of the project consists of the construction of a hospital block which comprises a basement, a ground floor, and six other floors.
The building will accommodate, amongst others, 520 beds, an Intensive Care Unit of 62 beds, and 10 Operation Theatres. To the tune of some Rs 2.6 billion, the first phase will span over 25 arpents.
As for the second phase, it will consist of the construction of a Teaching Block for 100 students, an auditorium with a capacity to accommodate some 500 students, and a Speciality Block with modern equipment.
