Africa-Press – Mauritius. A delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, on Tuesday 06 September 2022 in Ebène.
The Eswatini delegation was on a four-day mission in Mauritius during which they met with stakeholders of the Data Protection Office and Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU). Several representatives, namely: the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) of Eswatini, Mr Phesheya Dube; the Director of Communications, Ministry of ICT, Mr Andreas Dlamini; the Chief Executive Officer of Eswatini Communication Commission (ESCCOM), Mr Mvilawemphi Dlamini; the Director of Technical Services of ESCCOM, Mr Thulani Fakudze; the Director Legal Services and Compliance of ESCCOM, Mr Ozzie Thakatha; and the Chair of ICT Subcommittee of ESCCOM Board of Directors, Mr John Mathwasa, were part of the delegation.
During the meeting, Minister Balgobin highlighted recently accomplished projects in the digitalisation of the Republic of Mauritius such as the Mauritius Imagery and Radiotelecommunication Satellite (MIR-SAT1) and the MoKloud application. In addition, he dwelt on possibilities for exchange of experiences between the two countries as regards the ICT sector through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the ICT field.
For his part, Mr Dube pointed out that the Kingdom of Eswatini has a lot to learn from Mauritius in terms of modern technology and expressed his optimism for increased cooperation and investment from both countries, which in turn would lead to more job creation and empowerment of young people on both sides.
