Calls for Fair Play as Campaign Vandalism Impacts Municipal Elections

Africa-Press – Mauritius. With municipal elections in Mauritius scheduled for Sunday, May 4th, the campaign is in full swing, but some parties are facing challenges. En Avant Moris reported that 10 of their banners in Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill have been vandalized and removed. Party leader Patrick Belcourt expressed his disappointment, highlighting the financial strain this places on newer parties without significant funding.

Belcourt appealed to political opponents for fair play, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the needs of the citizens. He urged party leaders to address the issue of vandalism with their supporters. The incident highlights the challenges faced by smaller parties competing against established political forces.

Another candidate running under the Alliance of Change banner also reported a missing banner in Petite Rivière, which advertised a May 1st meeting. A police report has been filed. This further underscores the issue of campaign material vandalism during the municipal election season.
