Africa-Press – Mauritius. A high-level conference on digital transformation took place on October 16, 2025, at the MCCI Business School in Ébène. Organized by Emtel and the Indian Business Council (IBC), the event focused on critical topics shaping the modern economy, including cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital payments. The gathering brought together senior public officials, business leaders, and technology experts to discuss strategies for accelerating Mauritius’s digital transformation in alignment with Emtel’s vision as a leader in information and communications technology.

As one of the digital pioneers in Mauritius, Emtel’s core objective is to enable local enterprises to innovate responsibly, build resilience, and seize new growth opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital economy. The event featured key attendees such as IT Minister Avinash Ramtohul, Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava, IBC President Jayasankar Seshadri, and Emtel CEO Kresh Goomany. Discussions highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on business efficiency and innovation, showcasing Emtel’s cutting-edge services—such as GPU as a Service, chatbots, process automation, customized language models, and predictive analytics.

Cybersecurity emerged as a central pillar of the conference. Experts emphasized its crucial role in safeguarding infrastructure and client data within an increasingly interconnected world. Emtel’s Cloud platform, launched in August 2025, exemplifies this commitment by ensuring data sovereignty, service continuity, compliance, and vendor independence. With local hosting, geographic redundancy, global technology partners, and minimized latency, Emtel provides unmatched performance and resilience to its clients across Mauritius.

Another highlight was digital payments, particularly the success of blink, Emtel’s innovative payment application. Blink, the first in Mauritius to introduce the “Scan & Pay” feature, continues to redefine digital payment methods on the island. According to the Bank of Mauritius, mobile transaction volumes skyrocketed from Rs 11.1 billion in January 2023 to Rs 28.5 billion by July 2025, reflecting a national shift toward digital finance driven by partnerships between banks, public services, and fintech solutions. Blink’s latest launch, a dynamic QR code system developed with Super U, aims to streamline in-store payments for both merchants and consumers.

The partnership between Emtel and the Indian Business Council underscores the importance of collaboration in driving Mauritius’s technological advancement. Drawing inspiration from India’s achievements in AI, fintech, and digital infrastructure, Emtel aims to integrate global best practices into the Mauritian context. CEO Kresh Goomany emphasized that India and Mauritius share deep historical and economic ties and now a joint vision of innovation and knowledge exchange. Initiatives like this one strengthen public-private cooperation, ensuring that Mauritius remains at the forefront of digital transformation.
