Africa-Press – Mauritius. A total of 65 graduates received their certificates after successful completion of their training courses in the healthcare services in the presence of the Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, during a ceremony held yesterday at the Rabindranath Tagore Institute in Îlot.

The Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, Mrs Anishta Babooram, and the Acting Executive Director of the Mauritius Institute of Health (MIH), Dr J. Ramburn, were also present.

The event was an initiative of the MIH in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Among the graduates, 17 completed the National Diploma Level 6 in Diabetes Foot Care Nursing; 29 received “Diplôme Universitaire de Soins en Médecine d’Urgence”; five were awarded the National Certificate Level 5 in Physiotherapy Assisting; and 14 obtained the National Certificate Level 5 in Community Based Rehabilitation.

In his address, Minister Bachoo congratulated the new graduates for having successfully completed their respective training courses. “Your commitment, discipline, patience, and resilience demonstrate how seriously you take your profession”, he stated adding that these qualities are the foundation on which we continue to strengthen the healthcare system.

The Ministry, he recalled, is investing massively in capacity building and specialised training of healthcare personnels in a bid to meet the growing needs of our population. “Recruitment is important, but it is training, development, and lifelong learning that will shape the future of our healthcare services”, he said. So far, around 300 trainee nurses and 100 new doctors have been recruited to reinforce the healthcare sector, he indicated.

Minister Bachoo stressed that Government is committed to building a workforce that is disciplined, skilled, resilient and empathetic to uphold the well-being of the population and to keep up to the needs of patient care. He thus called on the new graduates to serve the healthcare system with integrity, humility and compassion.

Dr Ramburn dwelt on the successful transformation of the MIH since its creation in 1989. The institute, she said, provides a range of training programmes tailored for healthcare personnel. She announced the upcoming launch of new courses such as the National Diploma in Midwifery, Nursing specialising in Oncology and Nursing specialising in Cardiac. She also urged the new graduates to deploy their expertise to contribute to the needs of the healthcare system.
