Africa-Press – Mauritius. Former Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy—who is currently under provisional charge and subject to a travel ban—has renewed his efforts to seek permission to travel abroad. He appeared before the Southern District Court in Port-Louis on Wednesday to request a Variation Order that would allow him to travel to India in December to attend the W50 Global Summit, where he has been invited to deliver a keynote address. The court has scheduled the hearing for this request on December 3.
His lawyer, Me Raouf Gulbul, emphasized that the trip—planned from December 12 to 18—is strictly professional in nature. He stressed that Padayachy’s participation in this international event constitutes an “academic and economic contribution” and affirmed that there is no risk of his client evading judicial proceedings.
This development follows a similar request made in October, when Padayachy first sought to lift his travel ban for the same purpose. At that time, both the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) and the police opposed the request, citing concerns over a potential flight risk.
