Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Sir Satcam Boolell Ebène Gymnasium was inaugurated on Saturday 21 February 2026 during an official ceremony organised by the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes, in the presence of the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell.

The Minister of Local Government, Mr Ranjiv Woochit; the Junior Minister, Mr Mohammad Fawzi Allymun; the Chief Government Whip, Mrs Marie Geneviève Stéphanie Anquetil; as well as other personalities were also present.

In his address, Minister Boolell highlighted the vital role of sports in personal development and its effectiveness in steering youth away from the dangers of the drug scourge. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the whole population, while investing in young people, who he described as the country’s greatest asset.

Dr Boolell also paid tribute to Mauritian personalities who champion moral values and the development of human resources. The Minister moreover called upon citizens to make full use of the facilities at the Sir Satcam Boolell Ebène Gymnasium and to engage in regular sports activities.

Furthermore, he outlined upcoming projects, including the transformation of an old building in Belle-Rose into a market and a modern gymnasium, as well as the imminent completion of a soccer pitch at Résidence Père Laval.

Minister Woochit, Junior Minister Allymun, and Chief Government Whip Anquetil also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Sir Satcam Boolell. They further reflected on key Government initiatives and achievements to date.

Sir Satcam Boolell was a distinguished politician, lawyer, and statesman who played a pivotal role in shaping modern Mauritius. He served as a Member of Parliament for several decades and held key ministerial portfolios, including Agriculture and Foreign Affairs.

Renowned for his commitment to social justice, education, and agricultural development, Sir Satcam Boolell worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Mauritian communities. He was also a steadfast champion of democratic values and good governance in Mauritius.

His legacy continues to inspire generations of Mauritians dedicated to public service and nation-building.
