Africa-Press – Mauritius. As part of activities marking International Women’s Day to be celebrated on 8 March 2026, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, held a dialogue session with nine women who have followed unconventional paths in their respective fields on Saturday 21 February 2026, in Port Louis.

Held under the theme ‘De femme à femmes: Échos de vie’, the discussions focused on the personal journeys of resilient women who have experienced domestic violence, addiction, illness and career changes, among other challenges. The session provided an open platform for participants to speak freely about their everyday realities and lived experiences, without taboo.

In her statement, Minister Navarre-Marie said the initiative aimed to create a safe space for women to express themselves and be heard, noting that each woman’s journey is different, with some paths easier and others more difficult. She reassured participants that they are not alone and encouraged them to speak out so they can access the necessary support from the Ministry through Non-Governmental Organisations and other partners.

The Minister further underscored the importance of greater awareness of women’s rights and human rights to improve the situations women face, adding that respect for women and their rights is essential for them to live in peace.

Mrs Navarre- Marie added that the Ministry is working towards the empowerment of women, particularly victims of violence, by providing training programmes to help them achieve financial autonomy and take responsibility for their own lives.
