In the context of the 73rd Chinese National Day and 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritius, a ceremony was organised by the Chinatown Foundation, on 01 October 2022 at the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes, to reward participants of the Water Cube Cup contest.
The Water Cube Cup is an international singing competition with participation from all across the world. The objective is to promote the heritage and development of Chinese culture as well as to create a platform for international exchanges.
The Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Mauritius, Mr Liying Zhu; Ministers; and several other eminent personalities were present.
In his address, the Vice-President expressed satisfaction to be part of the event marking the celebrations for the National Day of China and the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries adding that it is a proud moment for the entire Sino-Mauritian community.
He indicated that the bilateral ties between Mauritius and China have been nurtured over the past 50 years through strong collaboration and partnership for the welfare of Nations.
“We have worked closely in numerous projects geared towards enhancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields”, he stated.
For his part, Ambassador Zhu spoke of the richness of the Chinese culture in terms of its language, painting, singing, music, and dance which is growing importance all around the world.
He rejoiced that even in Mauritius, the Chinese culture holds great value and is present through various forms of arts and food. He reiterated China’s commitment to reinforce existing ties and deepen bilateral cooperation with Mauritius.
